Important – CMA CGM partnership now available to all MSF programs

Hello,

We are pleased to share with you a positive development regarding our maritime supply options.

The “Containers of Hope” program, implemented by the CMA CGM Foundation, has been extended to the entire MSF movement. This partnership provides valuable support to our operations by partially covering the maritime transport costs of humanitarian cargo, and MSF programs supplied by MSF Supply can now benefit from it. 

To be eligible for this support, cargo must strictly be shipped via the CMA CGM shipping company, on the routes it operates (Syria, Yemen, and Port Sudan are currently excluded).

You will therefore continue to receive ocean freight invoices for your shipments; however, the main freight cost will be covered by the CMA CGM Foundation. Pre- and post-carriage costs, demurrage/detention charges, as well as MSF Supply fixed fees, will continue to apply.

 

Points of attention

  • Volumes, destinations, schedules, and modalities remain subject to CMA CGM’s operational constraints and to the Foundation’s final approval.

  • The partnership relies on a limited overall container quota, shared across all programs. This quota may therefore be rapidly exhausted if used for small-volume shipments.

  • t is therefore essential to continue consolidating shipments as much as possible in order to optimize container loading AND to preserve access to the partnership for volumes genuinely suited to maritime transport.

 

The partnership is not intended to be used for small shipments solely because the cost is lower than air freight AND/OR the environmental impact is lower. 

Even though these arguments are valid, a multiplication of requests for small quantities would reduce the optimization of the limited container quota and, consequently, the overall benefit of the partnership for all missions.

 

In summary

  • CMA CGM is the only shipping line available under this partnership;

  • Volume consolidation remains a priority;

  • The quota is limited and shared among all MSF programs;

  • Responsible use is necessary to ensure the partnership’s overall benefit.
